The Communications Department, also known as Dispatch, is the link between the Public and the Deputies of Yuma County. Emergency Communications Dispatchers collect vital information from callers to relay to responding Patrol Deputies. For the caller and the Patrol Deputies, the calm voice on the phone or the radio can be the link between life and death emergencies. No call can be underestimated at any time.
“Dedicated to Service”, the YCSO dispatchers are able to multi-task and to listen to more than one conversation at a time—qualities that insure everyone goes home safely at the end of a shift.
During 2025, YCSO dispatchers answered a total of 133,425 incoming phone calls, of which 26,539 were 911 calls. The daily average of incoming phone calls during 2025 was 366 calls. The 2025 daily average of 911 calls was 73.
The Communications Department not only dispatches for the Sheriff’s Office, but they also dispatch calls for the Yuma County Animal Control, Wellton Police Department, Wellton Fire Department, Tacna Fire Department, Martinez Lake Fire Department, and Tri-Valley Ambulance.
During 2025, dispatchers entered a total of 141,775 calls for service for responders, which represents a daily average of 388 calls for service. Of that total, 7,984 were for agencies outside of the Sheriff’s Office.
