Medical Services

The Yuma County Detention Center Medical Department prioritizes delivering exceptional inmate healthcare while maintaining a strong balance between cost efficiency and responsible stewardship of county tax funds. The program is structured to provide cost effective solutions, rapid responsiveness, and a consistent commitment to personalized, comprehensive, and high quality care for all individuals in custody.

The medical team is composed of both county employees and contracted healthcare professionals, creating a diverse and highly skilled workforce. This team brings extensive clinical experience in emergency medicine, intensive care, and hospital level treatment, ensuring the ability to manage both routine and high acuity patient needs within the detention setting.

In April 2023, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) partnered with AB Med for Medical Director services. Under the leadership of Dr. Erik McLaughlin, the program benefits from advanced clinical oversight rooted in extensive emergency medicine experience supporting timely decision making, clinical quality, and operational efficiency.
