On January 21, 2014, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of United States Border Patrol, was able to identify the victim in this incident. The victims’ fingerprints were scanned into a National Database that revealed his identity. Next of kin notification has been made.

On January 19, 2014 at approximately 8:39 p.m., the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Highway 95 just east of Avenue H. A passerby was able to provide a description and license plate on a possible vehicle that had front end damage that may have been involved. The vehicle was described as a red in color Chevrolet SUV. A short time later San Luis Police Department made contact with the vehicle and driver at a residence in San Luis, AZ.
The initial investigation revealed the vehicle was traveling east along Highway 95 towards Somerton, Arizona. The pedestrian was walking on the south side of Highway 95 when he was struck by the vehicle.
The vehicle was being operated by Margarita Belen, a 42 year old female from San Luis, Arizona. She was interviewed by Sheriff’s Office Investigators and ultimately arrested and booked into the Yuma County Adult Detention Center for leaving the scene of fatality accident.
The victim had no identification and remains unidentified. He is described as a white male between the ages of 20-30 years of age.
