Explorer Post #66
The mission of the Yuma
County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 66 is to offer young men and women an
insight into law enforcement as a career. Young men and women
age 14 through
20 who have no criminal background, who are in high school and maintain at
least a “C” grade average, or who are high school graduates (or hold GED
certificates), and who are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent resident aliens
residing full-time in the United States, are eligible for membership.
Explorers are trained to
assist Dispatchers, Detention Officers, and Clerks. They are also trained to
assist Deputies with low risk enforcement tasks such as traffic direction.
They also graciously volunteer their time to perform traffic control at
parades, assist with security at the Yuma County Fair and fingerprint children
for the “Kiddie Print” program. They participate in fund-raisers with other
Explorer scouts and are permitted to ride with Deputies as Civilian Observers.
Meetings
Meetings are generally held on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. at the Yuma County
Sheriff’s Office. Meetings are conducted to discuss special events/details
and upcoming training. Parents are encouraged to attend the first two
meetings and discuss any questions they might have.
